Description

Mid-later 18th century. 2-storey farmhouse, farm court to N
mostly now altered but polygonal horsemill and associated
threshing barn relatively well preserved.
FARMHOUSE rubble walling with squared quoins, window margins
mostly rendered and painted. Symmetrical 3-bay S elevation
with modern central rendered porch. All windows of original
dimensions, sash and case with 4-pane glazing. Asymmetrical
N elevation with low doorway to left, 3 further windows to
ground, all with 2-pane sashes. To 1st, 3 with 4-pane sashes.
Steeply pitched roof with good graded slates, coped end
stacks with thackstanes, end skews, sandstone ridge.
HORSEMILL AND FORMER THRESHING BARN: 5-sided rubble-built
horsemill with modern metal garage door. Facetted slate roof.
Horsemill connects with tall rubble threshing barn with now
blocked cart-arch to left, loft with slit ventilators.
S gable with some altered openings. N gable now largely
demolished gives on to modern cattle court. Interior gutted
and now used as storage.

Statement of Interest

This attached polygonal horsemill is much less common than

the usual circular Galloway type.
