Early-mid 19th century. Tooled rubble icehouse built against
slope. Entrance fronted by unusual Egyptian style doorpiece.

Statement of Interest

Conical vaulted icehouses are more usually associated with

constructed with vaulted a rectangular interiors. At Hopeman,

however, the icehouse is built against a rocky outcrop

which would have been difficult to pierce for rectangular

chamber. Icehouse constructed to serve local fishing industry.
