Description

Style of William Playfair, circa 1830. Irregular single and
2-storey Italianate farmhouse. Harl pointed rubble, tooled
ashlar dressings. Square 2-storey, single bay block with
paired round-headed windows in each face, the upper
fenestration linked by continuous cill band/string course;
shallow slated pyramidal roof with deep bracketted eaves.
Entrance in single storey range within square-headed recess.
Varied glazing; end and wallhead stacks; slate roofs with
bracketted eaves.
FORMER CARTSHED/GRANARY: single storey and loft, S facing 3-
bay elevation linked to house by short screen-wall. Rubble,
tooled ashlar dressings and margins. 3 tall round-headed cart
bays, some now infilled; regular paired round-headed loft
windows close under projecting eaves. Coped end stack at E
with unusual panelled detailing to base; bellcote at W; slate
roof.

Statement of Interest

Unusual farm architectural composition. The front of the cartshed/granary is now masked by high modern silos but the

original frontage is intact. Modern cattle courts to rear and

W not included in listing.
