Earlier to mid 19th century with later additions, 2-storey
rectangular plan, classically detailed farmhouse. Squared
and coursed Rattlebag stone. Ashlar dressings. Raised
base and band courses, and rusticated quoins to S.
Moulded eaves cornice to main house.
S ELEVATION: main elevation symmetrical 3-bay; advanced
porch at centre with rusticated quoins, architraved and
corniced door, narrow lights at sides. Recessed addition
to right, altered openings at ground.
N ELEVATION: full-height canted bay added to outer right
of original house.
W ELEVATION: 2-bay. Tripartites to left bay at both
floors; single lights to right bay.
Single storey piend-roofed addition to E.
12-pane glazing, predominantly with some 4-pane and
plate glass to sash and case windows. Moulded coping to
ashlar end stacks, with original cans. Slated piended
roofs.
INTERIOR: much of original interior detail retained.
Highfield steading to NE consists of almost symmetrical,
Rattlebag facade at S, circa 1975, with pantiled roof and
modern warehousing behind and to right, not listed.
