Description

Sir Robert Lorimer, 1906. 2-storey, T-plan 'Colinton
Cottage' style house. Harled with snecked rubble base
course and ashlar cills. Timber mullions to windows.
S ELEVATION: 3-bay. 2 full-height rectangular projecting
windowed bays, bridged to form loggia at centre by swept
roof. Modern enclosure to loggia. 1st floor bays
slate-hung with decorative fish-scale diamond detail and
bell-cast roofs adjoining main pitch.
E ELEVATION: doorway with ashlar surround and
decorative ogee pediment in re-entrant angle of recessed
and lower N wing. E gable projects with stack breaking
eaves to right of gablehead. Ashlar triangle and blind
slit adorning gablehead. Variety of window sizes and
details.
Single storey service wing to N. Small-pane glazing to
casement windows. Harled stacks with ashlar coping.
Slated roofs.
INTERIOR: well-preserved original details.

Commissioned by A Spittiswoode Ritchie. Sited to overlook

Links. Form of canted bays also evident at Lorimer's houses

at Bridge of Teith and Lundie, Arncroach. Combination of

harling, slates and fish-scale details also seen at Marly

Knowe, North Berwick. Contemporary garage to N by Lorimer.
