Dated 1822. Triumphal arch. Polished, coursed, sandstone ashlar. High round-arched central arch, with impost detail, flanked by two lower gateways. Polished parapet on moulded cornice. Blank tablet to centre of W elevation, tooled tablet to E elevation reading "THE KINGS GATE AUGUST XXVIII CVXXX XXII".
The King's Gate was constructed for George IV's visit to Newbattle Abbey, forming the entrance to an avenue which lead to the Abbey (now obscured by modern housing estate).
