Earlier/mid 19th century, rectangular hay/threshing barn,
orientated east/west. Rubble, dressed rubble dressings. 4
segmental headed openings fill north and south elevations,
the 2nd bay from west having double winnowing doors;
remaining south elevation vents are louvred, and wattled at
rear (north). Wide segmental headed entrance in east gable
with double slatted doors; blacksmith's hinges to all gates.
Corrugated iron roof, piended at east gable.
Interior; flanking each vent, and mostly surviving, is a
series of 6 rung racks or frames, through which poles could
be slotted on which hay/corn could dry in the draft provided
by wattled/louvred openings. Small, gutted, stable wing to
west gable.
A more sophisticated version of the "Top" barns, also on
Applecross Mains. Unusual survival of the internal drying
frames. Appears on 1875 1st edition OS.
