First World War memorial of circa 1920, with later additions for the Second World War.
A village war memorial of circa 1920.
MATERIALS AND PLAN: The memorial is constructed of stone and is octagonal in plan.
DESCRIPTION: The memorial stands in the churchyard of St Luke's Church, north-east of the church. It takes the form of a Latin cross which sits atop a tall, tapering shaft, which connects with a square plinth. The principal dedicatory inscription on the north-east face of the plinth reads TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND TO/ PERPETUATE IN GRATEFUL AND/ HONOURED MEMORY THE NAMES/ OF PARISHIONERS OF SAMBROOK/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE/ GREAT WAR 1914 - 1919. The names of the 4 fallen from the First World War are inscribed on the north-west face of the plinth.
A further inscription from after the Second World War reads ALSO IN MEMORY OF/ (NAMES)/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE/ GREATER WAR 1939 - 1945.
Below the plinth is an octagonal, three-stepped base.
