The Chapel was erected in 1894, by private subscription, at the insistence of Queen Victoria, in memory of her grandson HRH The Duke of Clarence and Avondale. The Dedication Service, held on 21st May 1894 was conducted by the Bishop of Winchester, assisted by the Archdeacon of Surrey and was attended by HRH The Prince of Wales.
