A Grade II Listed Building in Patterdale, Cumbria

St Patrick's Church, Patterdale

Uploader's Comments

The church is named after the patron saint, St Patrick who, although born in Wales, was raised in Ireland as a slave by Irish raiders. He escaped and returned to Great Britain where he became a priest. He later went back to Ireland as a missionary Bishop. He apparantly came to Patterdale in the early 5th century and converted many locals to Christianity. Patterdale was named after him, originally as St Patrick's Dale, which was latter shortened to Patterdale.
