II
Raised pavement extending from Gay Street eastward along north side of George Street for approximately 80 metres. Probably C18 in origin with late C19 railings.
MATERIALS: Pennant stone paving, rough limestone ashlar revetment wall, late C19 cast iron railings.
EXTERIOR: To west end revetment wall has entrances to basements of buildings above, and 4 metres platform on pyramidal double flight of stone steps at highest part (approximately 2.5 metres) to centre. Heavy cast iron railings, similar to those in Vineyards (qv), have interlaced "Romanesque" semicircular tops and pierced circles to bases. To east end, fronting Edgar Buildings (qv), six steps in tight concave curve abutting railings.
