House, now flats. c1777-1784 with C19 and C20 alterations. By John Wood the Younger.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front, ashlar and rubble to rear. Double pile parapeted mansard roof, Welsh slate to front and rear, with coped party wall to right with two ashlar stacks with some early clay pots shared with No.2 Catharine Place (qv).
PLAN: Staircase to rear.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic and basement, three-window range. First floor has three plate glass horned sashes in splayed ovolo moulded architraves with friezes and cornices and lowered moulded stone sills on console brackets. Second floor has three plate glass horned sashes in ovolo moulded architraves with stone sills. Ground floor has two plate glass horned sashes in splayed reveals with stone sills to right, to left six-panel door with fielded panels and single glazed panel, with cast iron lion's mask knocker, in stone doorcase with cyma moulded architrave and moulded stone cornice on console brackets forming hood, pennant paved crossover with wrought iron footscraper flush with pavement. Basement has two six/six sashes in plain reveals with stone sills, crossover partially infilled in ashlar with C20 door and glazed screen, C20 area steps. Double dormer with plate glass sashes. Band course over ground floor; modillion eaves cornice and coped parapet. Lead hopperhead and downpipe to right shared with No.2 Catharine Place (qv). Rear elevation has two/two and plate glass sashes; parapeted ashlar extension off staircase up to second half landing and further single storey extension.
INTERIOR: Partially inspected by Bath Council 1979. Many original features survive but nothing outstanding.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Attached wrought iron railings and gate with shaped heads on limestone bases.
