Pair of semi-detached houses. c1825, with later C19 alterations.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, painted to No.51, slate roofs, but concrete tile to rear of No.52.
PLAN: Compact double depth symmetrical pair, set to steep site, with full extra storey to rear.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys over lower ground floor; mansard roof to No.52. Each house two windows wide, with blind windows to central party wall; ground floor windows set within arcade of blind arches; similar blind openings to sides. Rectangular panel over central ground floor recess. Sill band, moulded cornice, blocking course and parapet, all returned. End stacks and large square one to centre. No.51 has plain plate glass sash windows, panelled door, and transom light to right; No.52 has two four-pane plate glass sash windows at each level, and sash dormers in steep mansard roof to each side. Rear to No.51 has been painted two plain plate glass sash windows above two French windows with plastic replacement transom lights, and lower ground floor has deep canted bay with light balcony rail over, also with French casements. No.52 has been substantially modified, with high pitched roof with concrete tile, and with full height canted bay with plain sashes. Shallow sunk arched panels to middle floor sashes, and upper floor sill band, to right of No.52 are sashes in main rear wall, including one with margin panes at lowest level.
INTERIORS: Not inspected. A design very similar to this façade was submitted for approval to the Bathwick Estate Office in 1825.
