House, now flats. c1775 (lease dated c1774) converted C20. Probably by Thomas Warr Atwood; developed by The Corporation of Bath and Richard Atwood.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front and right side, enclosed by adjoining buildings to rear; double pile parapeted mansard roof, hipped to rear right, artificial slate to front and rear with concrete tile to rear slope of front roof, with coped party wall to left with small ashlar stack with early clay pots to front slope of front roof shared with No.23 Bennett Street (qv), coped gable wall to right with ashlar stack to front roof, ashlar stack to rear back-to-back with stack of No.7 Oxford Row (qv) adjoining.
PLAN: House at junction of Bennett Street and Oxford Row (Lansdown Road) has front to Bennett Street matching other Bennett Street elevations, entrance to right side to secondary front to Oxford Row; staircase to rear left.
EXTERIOR: Front to Bennett Street is three storeys, attic and basement; three window front. First floor has three plate glass horned sashes in splayed ovolo moulded architraves with friezes and cornices, lowered moulded stone sills on cut down console brackets with wrought iron balconettes. Second floor has three plate glass horned sashes in ovolo moulded architraves with stone sills. Ground floor has three plate glass horned sashes in splayed reveals with stone sills. Basement has three plate glass horned sashes in plain reveals with stone sills. Two single dormers with plate glass sashes. Band course over ground floor with incised lettering to right BENNETT-STREET; modillion eaves cornice and coped parapet. Right side to Oxford Row is three storeys, attic and basement; four window range. First floor has to right two plate glass horned sashes in splayed ovolo moulded architraves with friezes and cornices with lowered stone sills with wrought iron balconettes, to left two similar blind windows without lowered sills. Second floor has two plate glass horned sashes in ovolo moulded architraves with stone sills to right, two similar windows to left. Ground floor has to right plate glass horned sash in splayed reveal with stone sill, to left two similar blind windows with plain reveals; to centre right 6-panel door with flush beaded, fielded and glazed panels with cast iron wreath knocker with simple fanlight with fluted timber impost band continued around beaded reveal to meet heavy console brackets of doorcase on flat pilasters and supporting brackets forming hood over. Basement has two plate glass horned sashes in splayed reveals with continuous stone sill to right, two C20 six panel doors under crossover and to left, limestone area steps with pennant treads and C20 handrail. Attic has two small plate glass horned sashes in plain reveals with continuous stone sill in gable wall to right. Band course over ground floor with incised lettering OXFORD-ROW to left and modillion eaves cornice both continued from Bennett Street elevation.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
