House, now flats. c1790-1793 with C19 and C20 alterations. By John Palmer.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front, rubble to basement, rubble to rear, artificial slate parapeted mansard roof with two ashlar stacks capped off to right. House at angle of Park Street has short section of facade at splayed angle to left of main front, staircase to front left, narrow elevation to rear.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic and basement, two-window range. First floor has two six/six-sashes, to left in plain reveal with stone sill, to right in splayed reveal with stone sill and wrought iron balconette, second floor has six/six-sash in plain reveal with stone sill to left, C19 horned two/two-sash in similar reveal to right. Ground floor has plate glass sash in splayed reveal with timber lintel and stone sill to right, to left six-panel door with flush, fielded and glazed panels, with one pennant step in pedimented Doric doorcase, crossover with pennant paving flush with pavement. Basement has eight/eight-sash in plain reveal with stone sill, C20 glazed door and screen under crossover, C20 area steps. Single dormer with two/two-sash. Timber bressumer and stone band course over ground floor, frieze, moulded eaves cornice and coped parapet. Sun Fire Insurance plate to first floor centre. Rear elevation partially visible, six/six-sashes to first floor and second floor, to first floor with wrought iron balconette, lead hopperhead, downpipe lead in part.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Attached wrought iron railings and two gates with cast arrow heads on painted bases.
HISTORY: Part of incomplete St James's Square development on land leased by Fielder, King, Hewlett and Broom from Sir Peter Rivers Gay 25 March 1790; lower part of Park Street forms one of the four diagonal approaches to St James's Square.
