A Grade II Listed Building in St Michael's, Coventry

Coventry market

Uploader's Comments

Photo taken on 10/11/2014. Note the four panels of street art commissioned and paid for by the market traders. This street art celebrates Coventry culture including Terry Hall lead singer of the 'two-tone' band the Specials. The two-tone name derives from 2 Tone Records, a record label founded in 1979 by Jerry Dammers of The Specials, and references a desire to transcend and defuse racial tensions in Thatcher-era Britain. Sometime in the period 2015-2018 this street art was painted over with blue paint by workmen. Note also that in 2020 IKEA closed its Coventry store so there is now no IKEA logo on the building. Lens: 24mm on APS-C camera.
