War Memorial. 1922. Designed by G.H.Goodwin and executed by George Brown & Sons. Limestone with bronze plaque to the centre and metal railings. The tablets bearing the names of the dead are arranged against a curved back wall from which 2 spur walls with benches project at right angles. Against these further tablets were placed recording the 146 men and women who lost their lives in World War II. To the centre of the memorial the walling is ramped at either side of a small, semi-circular pediment. Below are two inscribed quotations: "THESE DIED THE NOBLEST DEATH / A MAN MAY DIE / FIGHTING FOR GOOD AND RIGHT / AND LIBERTY / AND SUCH A DEATH IS IMMORTALITY" [John Oxenham] and "SO THEY PASSED OVER & ALL THE TRUMPETS / SOUNDED FOR THEM ON THE OTHER SIDE" [John Bunyan]. One part of a fine War Memorial which was set up in the centre of Kidderminster to commemorate the many people who gave their lives in both World Wars.
The memorial forms a group with the Sculpture of the Angel of Peace, Churchfields, Kidderminster and the Church of All Saints, Churchfields, Kidderminster [q.v.].
