Barn and adjoining cottage at St
Michael's Grange

Barn and cottage. Now playroom and cottage. Circa C16 altered
C20.
MATERIALS: timber frame, part weatherboard, part brick infill.
Clay pantile gabled roof.
PLAN: long rectangular plan of 5 framed bays, hipped midstrey
facing south-west in middle bay, cottage as extension on
north west.
EXTERIOR: cottage has one and a half storeys under
continuation of barn roof hipped at end, and has 3, C20
casement windows on south-west, upper window breaking eaves
level, with flat roof. Carriageway between cottage and barn,
and barn adjoins St Michael's Grange (qv) with C20 glazed
link.
INTERIOR: (barn) queen post roof with clasped purlins, arched
windbraces and arches braces from posts to ties. 2 posts have
jowels. Some rafters replaced and some other timbers re-used.
