Pair of cottages. Probably mid to late C18 with mainly C19 winows and C20 extension to north. EXTERIOR: Timberframed , clad in tarred weatherboarding on a brick plinth which has some earlier brickwork to the south. Handmade clay tiled roof and central original and north end later brick chimneystacks. Two storeys: irregular fenestration, mainly C19 wooden casements but two early iron framed casements survive. West front has two original plank doors in wooden architraves. No 6 has an addition in matching materials with catslide roof to east, no 5 has a C20 weatherboarded extension with a corrugated roof to north.
INTERIOR: Substantial main frame, the central bay with jowled posts and partitions of thinner scantling with diagonal braces. Some exposed rafters to roof. Spine beam, exposed floor joists and old floor boards. No 5 retains an original staircasewith attached door by the side of the front door. First floor rooms retain at least two C19 cast iron firegrates.
HISTORY: Thought to have been farmworkers cottages, possibly to a former farmhouse to the south called "The Moat".
