Garden feature. Circa 1730, for the second Duke of Richmond.
Brick, set in earth bank, with applied shell and pebble cladding and lining (much decayed). Vaulted chamber. Wide round-arched entrance with raised keystone. Interior: blocked circular roof lights; later opening in rear wall; patterned panels discernible.
This is one of several structures set around the bowl of a man-made amphitheatre and all of which were constructed circa 1730 for the second Duke of Richmond as part of his renowned menagerie.
