Garden feature. Circa 1730, for the second Duke of Richmond.
Rubblestone with stone lining. Small rectangular light on right. On left, curved wall with plain entrance which leads around to the right into a vaulted cell with curved internal walls and 2 lantern niches.
This is one of several structures set around the bowl of a man-made amphitheatre and all of which were constructed for the second Duke of Richmond as part of his renowned menagerie. It is believed that birds or animals were kept in it.
