Villa, now hall of residence. c1837-50 with later additions
and alterations including C20 infill to rear. Stucco over
brick with hipped slate roof, renewed left end stuccoed stack
and ashlar portico.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 5 first-floor windows arranged 2:1:2,
with range to rear and at left. Stucco detailing includes
full-height Doric pilasters to ends, and front first floor to
either side of central window; ground floor windows have
cornices on consoles. Plinth. 1/1 sashes throughout. Central
entrance, 2 roll-edged steps to 2-panel door with overlight
within Doric porch with 2 pairs of Doric columns, frieze with
triglyphs and metopes, cornice and blocking course. 6/6 sashes
to rear and 6/6 staircase sash with radial glazing to head and
margin-lights. 4-panel doors. Embellished cornices include
egg-and-dart cornice to hall.
INTERIOR: original joinery and plasterwork includes
narrow-open-well staircase with column and bobbin balusters
and dogleg service staircase with stick balusters.
HISTORICAL NOTE: land for development of Parabola Road was
sold in 1837, following the death of Rev Richard Skillicorne
(1834) for ยป50,000 to the Bayshill Estate Co. The Estate also
included Bayshill Road and St George's Road.
