Cirencester Road

Drinking fountain. c1870. Probably supplied by Boultons of
Cheltenham. Ashlar, mixed limestone and sandstone. Square base
on battered plinth. 4 panels with cusped arches and corner
columns with carved capitals. Crocketed gables over containing
carved trefoils. Crocketed spirelet above. West face has
carving of 'Christ with the woman at the well' and
inscription: 'Praise God from whom all blessings flow'. North
face inscribed: 'The Public are expected to protext from
Injury that which was erected for the public good'. Granite
drinking bow on west side.
Forms a group with No.175 London Road (Holy Apostles Old
School) and Church of the Holy Apostles (qqv), both by John
Middleton.
