Farmhouse, now house. Late C16 or early C17. Probably for John
Holden, with later additions and alterations including dairy
wing of c1720 and probably C20 lean-to entrance porch to
right, and c1920 extension to rear and interior alterations
for Benjamin Gough. Timber-frame with plaster infill, some
wattle and daub and some brick on limestone sill; with renewed
tile roof and C20 brick chimney.
EXTERIOR: one-and-a-half storeys, 3 cells. Small panels of
square timber-framing with arch braces. Entrance to right a
timber door. Casement windows throughout of 1, 4, 3 and 2
lights. 2 full dormers. Half-hipped roof and left ridge stack.
INTERIOR: extensive exposed timber-framing. Inglenook
fireplace to central hall (original kitchen) has chamfered
bressumer, with crane and pothooks. Chamfered beam. Jowled
posts to ground floor with tie-beam with scroll and notch
stop, and a massive post to first-floor supports roof truss.
Further smaller fireplace to parlour with replaced bressumer.
First floor has exposed purlins and rafters; roof has been
altered, tie-beams and principal rafters exposed. Extension to
rear interrupts wall-plate. C17 panelled door reused in dairy
chamber. Early C19 6-panelled door to parlour.
HISTORICAL NOTE: reputed from deed to be standing in 1624;
built on site of earlier farmhouse. Originally known as
Ryeworth Farm. The name was changed to Little Manor c1920-30
by Gough. The roof was probably thatched originally.
