SOUTHWARK

TQ3577SW OLD KENT ROAD
636-1/42/549 (South side)
14/05/75 Nos.864 AND 866

II

Pair of semi-detached houses. c1815. Built by John Lamb, a
timber merchant. Stucco with hipped slate roof with paired
brackets to overhanging eaves; tall central chimney stack.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and basement, 1 main bay each with outer
1-storey and basement, 1-bay entrance extension, slightly set
back and with a separate half-hipped roof. Doors and ground
floor and basement windows obscured by hoardings at time of
survey. Central section articulated by 3 tall fluted pilasters
(flanking windows) which rise through both floors and have
ammonite capitals (a motif popularized by Amon Wilds in
Brighton and now very rare in London) supporting segmental
arches over 1st-floor windows. 1st-floor windows are
segmental-headed in plain reveals.
INTERIOR: not inspected (boarded up at time of survey), but
said to have good internal woodwork and some original
fire-place and surrounds.
