1884/4/10000 Newtown Village Hall

School, used as parish hall. 1846, altered C20. Limestone ashlar. Clay plain and fishscale tile roof with stone coped gable ends with kneelers. PLAN: 2-cell plan, with slightly smaller east range like a chancel of a small Medieval church, a bellcote over the west end and a porch on the north front of the nave. Small C20 flat roof extension at rear [S] of east range. EXTERIOR: Single-storey. 1:2 window north front, the 2-window west range to right has central gabled ashlar porch with segmental arch doorway and plank door; to left and right a chamfered round-headed window with diamond lattice panes; similar window to left with later casement inserted. Similar, but 3-light round-headed lattice window in east end, and single-light windows at rear [S]. West gable end has similar 3-light window and small stone bellcote over gable above. INTERIOR not inspected. NOTE: There is a conveyance of 1846 by John Benett of Pythouse to Fanny Benett and the Marquess of Westminster for a school to be built on this site.
