Monument to John Graham, Dulwich Old Burial Ground
GV
II
Stone tomb chest on high and very plain stone base. Dated
1796. Flat-arched vault entrance to west return. Sarcophagus
with corner balusters of very mannered proportions. The very
plainness of the base, together with some battering, suggests
an Egyptian pylon as does the exceptionally bare treatment of
the ashlaring to the base. Marked F on plan, located along
south verge just north of Kingsley and Burgess tombs.
The burial ground, which was consecrated in 1616, was unusual
in not being adjacent to any church or chapel.
The monuments form a group with the C18 gates, walls and
railings to Dulwich Old Burial Ground (qv).
