Brass mill, now disused. Late C18 with minor C19 alterations.
Squared and coursed rubble with stone dressings, quoins and
hipped pantile roof.
PLAN: L-shaped plan with main open area to the west and races
to the east.
EXTERIOR: 2-storey; 3:7-window range. Main south facade with
wide segmental-headed openings with ashlar heads to
ground-floor level, those to the west raised, now
half-submerged with water from the leat; some blocked with
bricks or corrugated-iron. 4 smaller segmental-headed openings
to east end of floor above. West face has large
segmental-headed carriage arch with plank door.
INTERIOR: main internal space to west has simple king-post
roof structure with metal tie-beams.
HISTORICAL NOTE: the section of the River Avon near Saltford
is one of the most important areas, nationally, for the brass
industry and its archaeological remains
The building was in poor condition at time of survey; it forms
a group with Brass Mill Cottages (qv) and Avon House (qv).
