Church. 1913-15. By W Chasen Ralph and Son. Snecked red
sandstone, red tiled roof. Perpendicular style.
PLAN: nave, west tower north and south aisles, chancel with
small south chapel, north vestry.
EXTERIOR: the 3-stage tower, with angle buttresses, has a
2-centred arched 3-light west window with cusped lights and
Perpendicular tracery, a square-headed one-light traceried
window and a metal openwork clockface to the 2nd stage, paired
segmental-headed belfry windows with stone louvres, and a
traceried stepped parapet; the south side has a shallow porch
with a 2-centred arched doorway and parapet with frieze
lettered "BRING AN OFFERING AND COME INTO HIS COURTS".
The 5-bay south aisle, with buttresses and a plain parapet
with ridged coping, has 2-centred arched 3-light windows in
the 1st 4 bays with cusped lights and alternating forms of
Perpendicular tracery, and moulded sills and hood-moulds run
out to the buttresses; and in the 5th bay a shallow porch with
a moulded 2-centred arched doorway and frieze lettered "YE
SHALL REVERENCE MY SANCTUARY".
The gabled chapel, slightly overlapping the east end of this
aisle, has a window of 2 square-headed lights with cusped and
mouchette tracery. The chancel has a segmental-headed 4-light
window in the 2nd bay, and a large segmental-headed 5-light
east window with Perpendicular tracery. The north aisle
matches the south.
