Farmhouse, or perhaps wing of formerly larger house;
subsequently 2 dwellings; now derelict. Probably late C17,
enlarged or altered in C19; and perhaps reduced. Handmade red
brick in Flemish bond, and C19 brick in English garden wall
bond; with some sandstone dressings; 2-span stone slate roof
now felted. 2 parallel units, with back extension.
EXTERIOR: 2 low storeys, 2:2 windows in 2 gabled bays, with a
vertical joint between them and a sandstone plinth up to
ground-floor sill level. The left bay (of handmade brick), has
a 2-course band over each floor; at ground floor, a
round-headed doorway (now boarded) with a broad sandstone
surround and a hood-mould run out to the joint on the right as
an impost band, and a very small inserted window on this band,
with a cracked stone lintel under a segmental relieving arch;
and at 1st floor a segmental-headed vertical window to the
left and a low oblong window to the right (both boarded). Left
return wall rebuilt. The right-hand bay has a tall doorway
next to the junction, a large square window at ground floor
and 2 smaller windows above, all these with wedge lintels.
Rear has added back extension to older portion, and various
altered openings.
INTERIOR: very ruinous, but the older portion contains 2
quarter-round moulded beams and a doglegged staircase with
closed string and barley-sugar balusters (some missing).
HISTORY: not known, but the quality of the staircase suggests
a formerly larger house.
