Description

GARSDALE

SD78NW HAWES ROAD
162-1/11/231 (South side)
14/06/84 Coach-house opposite Garsdale Hall
(Formerly Listed as:
HAWES ROAD
Garsdale Hall, attached barn to E,
and barns to SE and SW)

GV II

Coach-house with cottage dwelling; unoccupied at time of
inspection (October 1994). Probably early to mid C19; slightly
altered. Coursed sandstone rubble with quoins, stone slate
roof. Rectangular 3-bay plan on east-west axis parallel to
road, facing north (recent sheds attached to rear not of
special interest). Two low storeys, with a pair of tall
segmental-headed wagon doorways in the 1st and 2nd bays, one
4-pane window on each floor to the right, the lower with a
rectangular lintel and the upper oblong and immediately under
the eaves (both now top-hung casements); and a gable chimney
to the right. INTERIOR not inspected, but domestic doorway
presumably reached through 2nd wagon doorway. Forms part of a
notable farmstead group with Garsdale Hall opposite (qv) and
barn to west (qv).
Formerly described as "Barn to south-east".
