Description

DENT

SD69SE DENTDALE
162-1/6/126 (North side)
Barn approx. 4m north-west of Moser
Hill Farmhouse

GV II

Shippon-barn. Probably late C17 or early C18, altered, and C19
shippon added to rear. Large mixed random rubble with quoins,
stone slate roof. Rectangular 4-bay plan on east-west axis,
with continuous shippon outshut added to north side under
catslide roof. The south front has a wagon doorway to the 2nd
bay protected by a shallow porch with monopitched roof: this
is probably a C19 alteration, carried out when the building
was converted and enlarged, because there are 3 original
shippon doorways, one in the centre and one at each end, the
first two blocked but all with segmental heads and long rubble
voussoirs. Between the 2nd and 3rd of these doorways is a
loading doorway (the lower part blocked) which has a
segmentally-curved monolith lintel scored in imitation of
voussoirs. INTERIOR: not inspected. Forms group with Moser
Hill Farmhouse (qv).
