Farmyard complex comprising stables with hayloft, cowhouse
with dovecote, barns, cowhouse, shelter shed, and granary.
Late C17 with C18, C19 and C20 additions. Weatherboarded
timber-frame, stone rubble and brick with plain-tiled roofs.
3-sided courtyard plan of east, north and west ranges.
Stables with hayloft in east range: stone rubble; 2-bay range
in 2 storeys. Boarded door to west gable with weatherboarded
truss over. East gable-end with framed openings at first and
ground level and ventilation slots in the apex. Single
trenched-purlin roof with single raking-strut truss. Cobbled
floor.
INTERIOR: not inspected
Cowhouse with dovecote in east range: weatherboarded
timber-frame at loft-level set on stone rubble wall to east.
Stone rubble wall with doors and vents to west. Dovecote set
on roof ridge over centre bay: pyramid roof with weather-vane
set on 3-tier dovecote on rendered base. 6-bay single purlin
roof. Trusses of low pitch with later underbuilding of cross
beams and arcade bracing on ground-storey brickwork to form
lean-to extension on west side.
INTERIOR: not inspected
Barn in north range: stone rubble and weatherboard. 5 bays
with open bay at each end linking to adjacent cowhouses. 2
storeys. Central opposing cart entrances with C20 door to
north and weatherboarded infill to south. 4 king-post trusses.
Cowhouse in north range: C20 brick on stone rubble with C20
steel windows inserted in openings. 7-bay roof with 6
king-post trusses. C20 lean-to extension to rear.
Shelter shed in west range: C19 on earlier core. Brick on
stone rubble rear plinth wall. 6 open bays to front. Cobbled
floor.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Granary in west range is now garage with storeroom. C19 on
earlier core. Brick. 2 storeys. Weatherboarded west gable over
open cart entrance. First-floor plain boarded door in east
gable.
