Manor house, now house. C15 with early C19 additions. Painted
render on coursed rubble plinth, stone rubble, painted timber
frame with painted infill panels. Plain-tile roofs and hipped
tile roof. Large central stone ridge stack with brick shaft,
C19 integral brick eaves stacks. Long range with one end of
former great hall with cross wing and an early C19 extension
now forming the main house at the other end.
EXTERIOR: 2-storey and single-storey and attic. South-east
front to left is early C19 rendered 2-storey, 3-window hipped
range of 6/6 sashes under flat keyed lintels, central door
with surround with pilasters and flat canopy. To right is
stone rubble range of old hall with 2-light upper-level
casement and 3 2-light casements at ground storey, plain
boarded door to left.
Gable end: rendered gable with 2-light casement under
weatherboard, lower level covered by later lean-to extension.
Rear: to right is stone rubble range with 6/6 sash at first
storey and blocked window at ground storey. Central projecting
gabled 2-storey C16 timber-framed wing of close studding with
straight tension braces and arched brace to return side,
gable-truss of straight tie beam, vertical struts, collar and
twin raking struts. To left is stone rubble hall range with
framed dormer with 3-light casement over 3-light casement at
ground storey.
INTERIOR: great hall of 4 unequal bays divided into 2 storeys
in C16, the north bay occupied by large chimney and
fireplaces. Truss types of spere truss, jointed cruck, and
full cruck truss. Roof slopes have curved windbraces.
Thought to have been the manor house of Aston Munslow in
medieval times, before the building of the present house.
