House, formerly 2 houses. Late C18. Brick, stone rubble,
painted render. Plain-tile roofs, central brick ridge stack to
left-hand house, integral gable-end stack to right-hand house.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, left-hand house lower. Front of left-hand
house with two 2-light casements with brick segmental arched
openings at ground floor and central door. Two 2-light
first-floor casements. Right-hand house has 2 first-floor
2-light casements. Ground floor with C20 glazed door to left
and a 2-light casement to right, both under brick segmental
arched openings.
Rear: rubble stone to higher house, brick to the lower with
single casement at first-floor level. Painted rendered gable
end.
INTERIOR: reputedly has unhewn timber roof trusses.
At one time, home of Hesba Stretton (pseudonym of Sarah Smith
1832-1911) who wrote `Jessica's First Prayer' and `Children of
Colverley'.
