GV II

Short terrace of 3 houses. Early C19. Rubble, mainly rendered,
ashlar plinth and dressings, slate roofs. One-bay cottages
with entrance to the left of window bay in each, and with a
wide-span roof.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attic, each with a flat-roofed 2-light
dormer, but that to No.4 blocked at time of survey. Remainder
of windows are 16-pane sashes, with raised plat surrounds and
stone sills. Doorcases have plain pilasters carrying a plain
frieze, moulded cornice, and blocking-course, and the cornice
is carried on curved brackets above the pilasters. Nos 4 and 5
retain original panelled doors, No.3 has a C20 part-glazed
door. There is a deep plain plinth, flush pilasters at each
end of the terrace, a deep brick ridge stack with 3 flues to
each right party-wall, and coped gables; the left gable, which
is plain and unrendered, rises to a half-hip.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
This is a modest terrace, externally almost unaltered, and
holding an important position immediately opposite the E end
of the Church of St Cuthbert.
