Farmhouse, now house. Late C16/early C17 with C19 and C20
alterations and additions. Lias stone plinth, timber-framing
encased in brick with roughcast to parts and mock timbering,
with renewed tile roof.
Originally L-shaped on plan with massive ridge stack
(rebuilt), with infill at right and extensions to left and to
rear.
EXTERIOR: one-and-a-half and 2 storeys, 3 window range; the
upper stage to left is jettied. Central entrance with a
part-glazed door in C19 porch; ground floor has 3- and 2-light
casements, the latter under elliptical arch. Upper stage has
4-light, 2-light and 1-light casement windows. Ridge and end
star-shaped stacks. Gabled roofs.
INTERIOR, original range: inglenook fireplace with bressumer
beam relates to massive ridge stack. Close-studding to
interior wall at rear, beam to rear room has deep chamfer.
Above main inglenook a fireplace with chamfered brick sides
and chamfered bressumer. First floor has fairly extensive
evidence of small, square panels of timber-framing.
To rear wall (now interior) a jowled post.
Roof has original chamfered purlins and rafters,
collar-and-tie-beam truss with queen posts apparently
interrupted by C16/C17 brick stack; gable end wall is
timber-framed.
Forms a group with Barn at The Redding's (qv).
