The Chair and Rocket Public House

Theatre, now public house. 1813 with later additions and
alterations including 1833 change to public house, and late
C19. Probably by Henry Hakewill. For Mr J Simms. Brick with
painted stucco facade and concealed roof.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 5 first-floor windows, ground floor
projects approximately 2.5 metres. Entrance to canted left
angle, step to part-glazed door with overlight. To right a
further entrance recess, now blocked, step. Moulded plinth. 3
pairs of 6/9 casement windows in plain reveals and with sills.
Moulded cornice, frieze, modillion cornice, low parapet. First
floor: 4 pairs of Tuscan pilasters to ends of range and to
either side of central window. 6/6 sashes throughout in plain
reveals. Frieze, cornice, low parapet stepped twice to centre.
Right end stack.
INTERIOR: room to right has gallery to two sides,
approximately 0.75 metre high with moulded base,
square-columned, round-arched arcade and cherub-head frieze.
To each opening a stone barrel labelled for beer and spirits.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Bath Street was a main street of the C18
village of Leamington.
