Terraced house. Late C18 or early C19; restored in late C20.
Brick in Flemish bond and stucco. Roof of tile.
EXTERIOR: 4 storeys over half basement. 2-window range. Steps
up to round-arched entrance, fanlight, jambs and archivolts
panelled. Entrance framed by an aedicule consisting of a pair
of Tuscan columns, entablature impost blocks and pediment of
raking cornice only. To the right a full-height segmental bay
with tripartite, flat-arched windows. Sashes of original
design to basement windows only: centre 3 x 6, side lights 2 x
4. To the left of the bay on first through third floors, a
single window, which on the first floor is flat arched and in
the floors above is camber arched. The first-floor verandah,
the design of which has been attributed to the architect
Charles Augustin Busby, is rectangular in plan and has
cast-iron railings, stanchions and brackets: the railings are
in the pattern of intersecting ogee arches, the stanchions are
colonnettes cast to resemble bamboo poles, the metal roof has
valance boards. Stack to right party wall.
INTERIOR: not inspected. Cast-iron railings to stairs and
area. Nos 20-31 (qv) form a group.
