Terraced house, now shops. Late C18 or early C19; shop front
of c1835, extra storey added in late C19. Stucco. Hipped roof
of slate.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and attic over basement. One-window range.
Ground floor taken up by segmental-bay shop front of early to
mid C19 date. All openings are flat arched. French doors to
tripartite opening on the first floor. These open onto a
shallow balcony enclosed by cast-iron railings in a fret and
anthemion pattern. The sashes to these doors have margin
lights and are of an early to mid C19 design: 4-pane transom,
3-pane French doors, and 3-pane sidelights. The second-floor
window was extended and now cuts into the entablature
separating the second and attic floors. The latter storey is a
late C19 addition. Above the entrance is an iron sign bracket
of late C19 or early C20 date. From the ground to second floor
a curved stair of original design.
Nos 26-31 and 33-36 East Street (qv) face onto what is, in
effect, a small square, which is formed by the widening of
East Street at its northern end. Legend has it that this group
was built on the site of a small wharf of an inlet.
