Gate lodge. 1890 by L Maples for George Frederick Sleight,
with C20 rear additions. Red brick in English bond with stone
dressings; rendered to rear. Welsh slate roof. T-shaped on
plan: 3 rooms with entrance to rear and small C20 infill
additions to rear angles.
EXTERIOR: single storey; 3 bays to main north front, central
bay breaking forward. Central brick canted bay window with 1/1
plate-glass sashes in pilastered surround. Side bays have
similar sashes beneath gablets. Continuous band at lintel
level supporting shaped brackets to overhanging eaves with
moulded eaves board. Hipped roof. Central cross-section stack
with stone bands and corniced cap. Right return has pair of
sashes in reveals with stone sills and lintels. Single similar
sash to centre rear.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORY: GF Sleight (later a baronet) was one of Grimsby's
greatest fishing magnates, with interests in all processes of
the industry, including a fish-curing factory in Sidebottom
Street (qv).
