Terrace of 4 houses, Nos 42 & 43 now integrated as public
house and the others converted to flats in late C20. Probably
1840s; altered. Red brick in Flemish bond (Nos 42 & 43 now
painted white), with sandstone dressings (all now painted,
black at Nos 42 & 43, white at the others); slate roof hipped
to the left. Double-depth plan, each house double-fronted
except No.45 which has the entrance in the left return side.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys; 10-window range, the windows grouped
1:3:3:3. Plinth, plain Tuscan pilasters to the ground floor
with a frieze and dentilled bracketed cornice; the upper
floors carried on a continuous jetty, a sill band to the
second floor and a dentilled bracketed eaves cornice. At
ground floor each (except No.45) has a large round-headed
doorway with pilaster jambs, moulded imposts and lintel, and
plain fanlight, flanked by large canted bay windows. Each
alternate canted bay is 2-storeyed, on the first floor
alternating with 2 tall windows. 2 round-headed windows at
second floor. All these windows are unhorned 1/2 or 2/4
sashes. Chimneys on front slope. Left return side of No.45 in
similar style.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Forms group with Nos 45A-48 to the left (qv); and with former
Victoria Baths to the right (qv).
