GV II
Farmhouse, now house. C17 or earlier, enlarged in C18 and C20; altered. Timber
frame subsequently cased in red brick, with additions also of red brick, tile hung
at 1st floor; red tile roof. Two-unit single-depth plan with C18 addition at right-
hand end, lean-to at left end, and outshut to rear. Two storeys to 2 levels, 2+1
bays; the ealier portion has a modern gabled porch at the junction with the
lean-to at the left end, modern casements of 2 and 3 lights on each floor to the
right, and the roof half-hipped at the left end with coupled chimneys at the
junction with the addition to the right. This is 2 higher storeys and one bay,
with a modern 3-light casement on each floor. The rear has an added outshut
under a catslide roof with 2 dormers. Interior: visible timber-framing includes
the west end wall (at the junction with the lean-to), and at 1st floor the rear
wall, both ends, and the partition wall, with angle-braces and windbraces to all 4
corners, and a chamfered lateral beam approx. 2 metres from the east end wall
suggests a former smoke bay; at ground floor the 2nd bay contains a re-built
inglenook with chamfered bressummer, and a staircase to the rear of the
chimney stack (approx. 1 metre in diameter), but the lateral partition between
the bays has been removed, and a vacant mortice in the post in the west end
wall suggests that this end was formerly longitudinally partitioned.
