GV II
A pair of cottages, formerly one building. C16. Timber-framed
and rendered; brick rear wall; plaintiled roofs. An internal
chimney-stack with a plain red brick shaft.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attics. 4 window range: 3 9-pane
sashes and one 6-pane casement window, all in flush cased
frames, to the 1st storey and 3 sashes with a single vertical
glazing bar to the ground storey. 2 doors in plain wood
surrounds; No.2 with a flat cornice hood.
INTERIOR: no cellars. The frame is in 4 bays with part of a
5th bay on the south. The remainder of this bay now forms part
of the adjoining house. Plain and very heavy main beams to the
ground storey; joists replaced; jowled main posts. No evidence
of original partition walls on either storey: the range seems
likely to have been a workshop or store initially rather than
a house. The internal chimney-stack is an insertion. Only side
purlins visible in the attics. No.3 was damaged by fire about
20 years ago and both roofs may be replacements.
