Nos. 1 & 2.
II
One building, divided into 2 houses. C16, and later. 2 storeys: L-shaped
form. Timber-framed and rendered, with C20 pargetting. Pantiled roof, but
formerly thatched. A large internal chimney-stack with a C19 red brick shaft
finished in white brick. 3 early C19 window openings to ground storey with
reeded surrounds, 2 with C20 casement windows, one with a large fixed small-
paned window. 3 small-paned sash windows with cased frames to upper storey.
No.1 has a 2-bay front range with later divisions, and a one-bay wing at the
rear: a heavy exposed timber ceiling, and an end chimney-stack, with a
remodelled hearth and lintel. The ceiling has a chamfered main beam and
closely-set wide unchamfered joists: possibly late C15. The roof over this
range is a late C17 replacement, and the roof over the main range was
completely renewed following partial collapse about 20 years ago. No 2 has a
3-bay front range with exposed timbering: on the upper storey are the remains
of 3 trusses with solid arched braces, some mutilated, with no evidence of
original partitions. The chimney-stack appears to be an insertion.
