A Grade II Listed Building in Calke, Derbyshire

Polygonal Animal Shelter at Calke Abbey

Uploader's Comments

The notice inside calls this building the Round House which was used for mares in foal. It was built in this shape to prevent the horse from backing herself into a corner, and so making it difficult for the grooms to assist in the birth.
