2 town houses, now hotel. No.5 early C19 of red-brown brick
and No.7 1777 of brown brick, both having grey slate roofs
with ridges parallel with the street.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys; painted stone plinths and sills. No.5 is
double-fronted with door of 2 bolection-moulded panels above 2
flush panels with a plain fanlight in a recessed round-arched
opening; 2 recessed sashes with square panes to each storey,
of 12 panes to the first and second storeys and 9 panes to the
third storey, all under cambered brick heads; brick floor-and
eaves-bands, wood fascia and plain eaves; flush chimney before
each end of ridge.
No.7, of 4 windows, has door of 4 fielded panels above 2 flush
panels with overlight of 3 round-arched panes in a pedimented
Gibbs surround of painted stone; flush sashes under gauged
brick flat arches: first story has a tripartite 4;12;4 pane
sash to each side of door, with a round-arched 9-pane window,
right; four 12-pane sashes to the second storey and four of
nine panes to the third storey; modillion cornice; lead
rainwater-head, pipe and brackets, the uppermost bracket dated
1777; coped gables have coped chimneys just before the ridge;
the right end, north, has two 12-pane sashes and one of 9
panes; a small inserted attic window. The rear has
miscellaneous replaced windows in generally unaltered
openings.
INTERIOR: most features other than the 2 stairs have been
covered or destroyed. The cellars are partly barrel-vaulted in
brick; a pilastered round archway between hall and stair of
No.7; the stair of No.5 has a narrow open well, open string,
curtail, fluted newels, stick balusters and swept rail; the
stair to No.7 has a narrow open well, closed string, turned
plinthed newels, 3 turned plinthed balusters per step and
swept rail probably of mahogany.
