House at Isinglass Factory

Former drying house and workshop to tannery, later finings house to isinglass factory. Three builds. Northern part probably late C18 or early C19, southern part early to mid C19 but shown on 1853 Tithe map and one storey part to
north probably early C19/ Northern part has base of red brick. Timber framed above and clad in weatherboarding with pantiled roof. Three storeys. There is
a central access opening in the ground floor of the west elevation with a
small inserted window to the north. Loading doors at first floor level of
north end with a smaller loading door at the south end. Blocked opening in
east elevation. The east elevation orignially had adjustable louvres.
Internally there are four structural bays and steep wooden steps/ Second
floor has been removed. Timber bolted knees to posts and beams. Three large wooden bats were used for preparing liquid finings (isinglass in solution)
but the original use of the building was a drying house for hides and skins
to the original tannery.
