Base and part shaft of Roodeye Cross
at SJ 4016 6584
II*
Base and part shaft of stone cross. Traditionally believed to
be Saxon, but more probably a boundary stone C13 of land
belonging to St Mary's Priory (no longer standing) which stood
between Chester Castle and the Roodee. Sandstone. Base-stone
just above ground level; low, eroded, rectangular plinth;
damaged square shaft.
The cross was at one time removed and lay beneath the City
Walls. Reerected in its original position 1855.
