House. Dated 1630, rebuilt c1905. Coursed squared gritstone,
stone slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 first-floor windows. Central
top-glazed door in chamfered quoined surround, large lintel
cut to a shallow pointed arch with an incised panel with
raised lettering 'TAP-WP 1630'; stone brackets with flat
moulding over. Two 5-light recessed chamfered mullion windows
with hoodmoulds and carved stops to ground floor, 4-, 2-,
4-light mullion windows to first floor. Cyma-moulded kneelers
and gable copings, shaped finials.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
The C17 house on the site stood at right angles to the road
and by 1905 was 3 cottages, disused. The stonework was re-used
to build the new house by 1911 in the Vernacular Revival
style; the re-set brackets over the door are similar to those
at Weetwood Hall (qv), 1625. The rebuilt house was known as
Hawcaster House.
